Op 29 januari 2004 werden er een paar nieuwe spellen gelanceerd in Japan: Pokémon FireRed en LeafGreen (Pokémon VuurRood en BladGroen). Deze spellen kwamen in Noord-Amerika uit op 9 september 2004, en zijn een herziene versies over Pokémon Red en Blue. Hiermee werden die spellen op dit peil met een derde generatie gebracht, en werden tevens een draadloze methode over ruilen mogelijk via de Wireless adapter. Tevens kwam daar een andere kleinere gewest uit in die spellen: de Sevii Islands. Deze spellen gaven verder de gelegenheid om de legendarische Pokémon Deoxys een paar nieuwe vormen te melden, via deze tot een bepaalde cartridge te sturen.

The player character takes the role of a Pokémon Trainer. The Trainer has three primary goals: travel and explore the Pokémon world; discover and catch each Pokémon species in order to volledige their Pokédex; and train a team ofwel up to six Pokémon at a time and have them engage in battles. Most Pokémon can be caught with spherical devices known as Poké Balls. Generation VIII[422] debuted with the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield on November 15, 2019 for the Switch.[423] Director Shigeru Ohmori stated that they designed the games based on what they believed of the biggest Pokémon theme ofwel becoming/being "the greatest or strongest," which was expressed in the games' gigantic-size Pokémon core mechanic and the games' increasingly powerful software and apparatuur capabilities. A production council was formed to produce the Pokemon anime. Different people appeared at different meetings, but four individuals usually present were Ishihara of Creatures, Sugimori of Game Freak, Yuyama of OLM, and independent producer Yoshikawa. Yoshikawa had the final say. The council decided on the anime's worldview, characters, general storyline, and various important details.
